Problems With Disposable Drink Coasters

Disposable beverage coasters are devices that many restaurants and bars use to act as a temporary placeholder for your drink, protecting their surfaces, to some extent, from scratches and water damage.

If you have ever been to a bar you’ve probably seen them. They are made of paper, or cork, or some sort of thin cardboard. As you place you cold sweaty glass down on them, they start to get soggy, the material drips, and even though you are using a coaster, liquid gets everywhere. A little more use and that beverage coaster starts to fall apart altogether, getting little annoying flecks of paper or cork everywhere, sometimes even in your glass.

The problem with disposable drink coasters is that they are made to fall apart. They aren’t permanent, it’s right there in the name. In an ideal world they would work perfectly a few times, and then be thrown out. However in reality, they are almost never thrown out until they actually start to fall apart on a person during use. That means that on a rotational basis, customers or guests will be forced to deal with nasty, soggy, ripping, low quality coasters on a regular basis.

Many times people choose to use disposable coasters because it is easy to have pictures printed onto them. People will have a set printed up for a business, or for a family event, or even just with pictures of the family on them for use around the home. Unfortunately as soon as a wet glass is put down on that coaster, the image starts to distort. Either the ink runs, or the coaster itself warps, or starts to crack. Whatever the cause of the calamity, the image is going to look pretty haggard pretty quickly. That means that the photo of your loving family, or your companies corporate logo, is going to look terrible after use, and may be worse than not having done the printing at all.

The world is made up of details. Not many people pay attention to those details, but what they do notice is the overall atmosphere that is created by everything in a space. Drink coasters are part of that equation, and should be chosen with that sentiment in mind.
