Halloween in October is flooded with contests of who has the best Halloween costumes. Parents and kids get some extra bonding time to work on those costumes, hoping to bag the grand prize and the most goodies as well. Either way, Halloween is actually the best time to wear the silliest but cutest costumes.

Shopping malls and specialty stores pile up on various Halloween wear during this time of year. Unfortunately, you will most likely find yourself having the same costume as someone else. You do not want your friends all wearing the same costumes as you. Now that would be scary! Sometimes, some of these costumes are not cheap. So, why not look around the house and in your backyard to make a costume that is uniquely yours and save more money in the process.

Ghost In YouBored with the same old white sheet draped over you every Halloween? Try dressing it up! Put a little lipstick around the mouth area. Put on fake lashes around slit cut for the eyes. Find plastic earrings and glue them by the ear areas. Cool long necklaces drape around the neck will make your ghost extra stylish as well. As for the boys, a bandanna around the head or any hats will give your otherwise boring ghost some character.

Tanned TouristsTo make your ordinary tourist look more authentic, paint your face and arms with just a small amount of temporary, light brown color body paint. This will look good with your tourist get up of Hawaiian shirt and shorts, with camera sling around the neck. Girls can either wear a wrap-around dress or just shirts and shorts. She can bring along a big tote, transparent bag complete with all the tourist essentials like maps, books, sun block lotion and a bikini. Do not forget straw hats and carry along luggage.

The Oldies lookLooking like grandma and grandpa is relatively easy and it costs you little to nothing. Just raid your grandparents attics for a good old flannel shirt or suit, a vintage cap and a cane for the boys. Girls can take a pick amongst grandmas lovely old, ruffled-style dresses. Try to find also some old stockings, oxford shoes and a vintage purse. To look really old, you can use these two old tricks on theater make-up. Dust off a little bit of baby powder or flour on your hair, and apply egg whites over your face.

Straight out from the Grocery Store lookGet a big box from the garage that is right for your body size. Cut holes on the sides and the bottom (for your arms and legs). Paint the box with your favorite cereal brand. Then use black or colored tights, gloves and a wig to look more fun!

The Garden lookGather leaves, twigs and flowers from the garden. Stick them on an old brown or green leotards or tights. More of these flora and fauna, the better will be the look. Dress up an old straw hat with ferns and leaves too. Put on a face mask and attach small bits of leaves and flowers. Before wearing the leotards and putting on the face mask, paint your body first with the color of nature. Then you are all set to join the birds and the trees!
