Imperative Baby Crib Bedding Sets Safety Guidelines
When parents are preparing their nursery for their new baby, safety might be the last thing on their minds when it comes to baby bedding. It’s easy to get carried away with cute comforters, so pay attention to ensure your baby’s crib is safe, and still stylish.
When choosing baby bedding, you really only need fitted sheets and light weight receiving blankets. Until the age of 2, the use of a comforter in baby bedding is unnecessary. Do not cover your child in a heavy blanket before he or she is a year old, because your child may overheat or even suffocate when covered by the blanket.
It is not always necessary to use heavy blankets in a nursery. Keep in mind the room temperature in order to maintain a cozy setting and in the summer dress the baby in outfits that are made of breathable fabrics and warmer outfits during cold months.
If bumpers come with the baby bedding you pick out, get rid of them because they’re not safe, and have been linked to SIDS. Crib bumpers can be used as step-stools to assist little ones in climbing out of their crib, as soon as they can climb it is time for the bumpers to be removed. They make look really cute, but bumpers are nothing but a bad idea, with both baby girl and baby boy beddings.
Once you are ready for your child to spend the night in a crib, make sure all stuffed animals and pillows are removed, because these are also a suffocation hazard, no matter how cute they might be. You can let your child play with toys in his or her crib as long as you’re watching, but the toys should be removed when it’s time for your baby to go to sleep.
Crib bedding can really add a wonderful touch to a child’s nursery, but please remember that matching comforters and pillows are just for looks; they are not a functional or safe choice for your infant’s bed. If you do not know the answer to your question ask your pediatrician for advice, but a good rule is to minimize infant bedding.
When your son or daughter graduates to a toddler bed, you have more options in decoration since you can now use comforters and pillows (though your child may be the one who chooses the decor!)
