Follow the same procedure for exhaling as well. It its quite long for you, try 7 or 8.
While inhaling, note that your chest and stomach should gradually rise, and should be back to normal during exhalation. If you regularly practice breathing by counting, it will benefit you during a panic attack. So when you feel a panic attack is forthcoming or it has already come, you can just smell that handkerchief and avoid a long lasting attack. So remember that proper breathing as also having an emergency kit ready will help you better in fighting panic attacks, so you’ll be well-prepared in advance to deal with it.
